The coach and coach’s tasks and work
Introduction
The champions are being born. However the champions are also being created. You are wrong if you think that it is easy to make a champion. However, it is not impossible!
Stubborn, permanent, hard training is inevitable, but to work more and more does not necessarily mean that the training would be in such a way better or more successful. How to make better and how to improve the skill in a very heavy and complex game as table tennis? By most difficult training, with more and more training, by simulating of the shots which are mostly used in the tournaments, or by intelectual efforts and by special tactics? Or by physical preparations?
With all these elements – partially!

Coach
Most experts consider that the better results could be achieved only through a good coach. The self-trained table tennis players are quite rare in todays table tennis. To be a coach is a professional job, same like a professional table tennis player. They both have quite determined tasks. The coach must also make extraordinary efforts in order to reach successful results. It is very important that the coach likes his job, that his job becomes a part of himself. Otherwise, it would become very difficult to work through years, in spite of the attractive salaries. It is not real to expect that the good coach be a magician.

Creation of tactics
In order to help the player in creating the tactics, it is
necessary for the coach to know the both technics and tactics theoretically, and needles to say, the practical tactics as well. He must know how to apply his knowledge in concrete situation. Furthermore. the coach must know the abilities of his players as well as the frames of the opponents, and he must give attention to the momentary disposition of both players.
It is important for the coach to prepare the player in such way that the player in such way that the player can develop the necessary tactics by himself.
The creation of the tactics in the table tennis reflects in the fact that all positive and good technical, tactical and mental abilities of the player can be realized in the best possible way during the game at the table. At the same time, the continuty as well as the flexibility are most important quality of the tactical creation.

Teknik
Technique denotes a certain manner of performing a movement in the relatively most efficient way in order to complete a defined motor task. In table tennis, technique may be defined as a form of movement where the notion “form” does not only denote an external feature but the structure and organization of a movement as well. Technique consists of a variety of different elements such as:
basic posture
– leg movement
– body movement
– shoulder movement
– movement of arm, upper arm, forearm, fist
– trajectory and racket position

Multiboll
Interval training is one of the most rational way of practising and it is very difficult to imagine a well organized practising without such work.
The coach is practising the elements of the table tennis with a player (one or more elements in a given combination), according to the need of changing the ball rotation, the direction and the length and the intensity of the desired game rhythm.

How coach could forster ability of good Players?
Table tennis is one of the most sophisticated sports. It requires a practically infinite stores of skills, tactical and technical. fastness, stamina, dexterity, ball control, cunning, good reflexes, quickness in decismn, a good nervous system and untiring diligence. Learning table tennis is similar to climb steep stairs and, the number of steps being a great one, you can’t see where the climbing ends. Furthermore the rise of steps being unequal, you fairly may believe that the worse is over when you still have to climb the steepest tread.
When you start to work with one player, it is absolutey necessary to establish his strong and his bad sides. This has to be done from the point of view of the general and specific physical condition from one side, and from the technical-tactics and psychological condition, from the other side…

Tasks and work of the coach.
The basic tasks and aims of the coach are to improve the player’s potentials and his further development. The coach and the player must jointly find the best possible way which could lead to the further improvement and to the progress in the game, without taking into account the physical, mental or emotional side. The aim of each coaches should be: to realize a given aim in general, or realize the determined aim with the least possible time (through the application of the sports sciences).

Motivation is very important factor success
Really, motivation is very important factor of success in all kind of activities, and in table tennis the motivation directed on training, on submitting to efforts, to match playing or playing for victory. Taking into account that the table tennis bacame very demanding and difficult sport, which it is important to start practising in early youth, motivation is playing an important role by youth groups, in time when the young organisme in development is being subordinaded to heavy psyological efforts.

Cocentratio in table tennis
Permanent maximal concentration has a special importance during the whole game in table tennis. Simple mistakes are often the main reason for defeats, and this is why such mistakes could be attributed to the lessening of the degree of concentration.
Relatively small number of players possess natural ability of complete concentration during the game. However, great majority of players have difficulties in some extent in this respect. The work to increase the concentration must be one of the most important tasks of the coach, because only with the full concentration the technical and tactical abilities of the player can be realized.

Taktikens grundstenar

Placering i sidled

Placering i djupled

The “touch”
Introduction
The expression “touch” is well known and understandable to each tennis player. But, when one has to define this expressmn, certain difficulties occur. It is usually said that touch is just touch, and that it is not possible to explain it property.
Touch” may be defined according to A. Vajnstajn as a feature that exists of several components. The player’s touch denotes capability of the player to decide (while making a stroke) where, at which trajectory and how far the ball has to fly. Besides, there is also a capability to follow, to change the tempo and rotation of the opponent’s stroke, to adjust to the opponent‘s balls, as well as the capability to recognize on time direction, flight speed and rotation of the coming ball. in other words, touch is composed of a capability to precisely hit the goal with the ball, a capability of anticipation i.e. foreseeing, developed kinesthetic feelings, an ability to precisely dose the muscle tension and to promptly react to visual signals. Besides, a significant role in the development of touch is conscious performance of a movement, “living through” one’s own stroke. It can be said that touch is a special feature of visual reaction and the clear feeling one has for a movement that enables easiness, firmness, freedom and naturalness of a movement.

Measurements
In order to define and measure touch as precisely as possible, research of afferent individual components which altogether produce touch, was started. Therefore, accuracy in hitting a certain target was measured, as well as the player’s ability to conclude beforehand from the move the opponent makes when hitting the ball, the trajectory of a ball hit by the opponent. Using a kinemameter the player’s ability to precisely differentiate muscle tension was measured. The ability to dose precisely muscle tension was defined through a dynamometer. In order to measure as exactly as possible components, which aitogether create touch, promptness of reaction to visual and auditive signals was measured too.
It was undoubtedly established in the analyses of stated data that each of the above-mentioned components is one of the elements, which altogether form what is, in table tennis, called ”touch”.
As touch is a very important element in a player’s development! it is necessary to search for a possibility to improve it through training, as each other element. There are players that have an inborn sense of touch and players who do not have it. In order to improve touch through training, especially in players who do not have it inborn, the following modes of practice will be applied.
Stroke control
In order to improve touch it is necessary to perform strokes With full concentratlon and be able to consciously perform the whole course offla stroke. It means that a stroke should not be performed automatically, but one s own course of a movement stroke” should be “lived through“ while it IS performed, and/or a player should consciously control each part.
The supposition for successful undertaking is that the player knows exactly how the course of a stroke should be performed. A player will succeed in grasping the essentials of a technically correct performance of strokes through the help of his coach, by observing other good players and by studying relevant expert literature. Then the player will be able to help himself control the performance of strokes and correct his own mistakes.
Tasks for successful performance of exercises
In technical training a player should try to consciously control the course of each movement of a stroke, and not to perform a stroke automatically.
Characteristic parts of a certain stroke, especially those parts that are not appropriately perfected, should be individually analysed in order to make the player absolutely conscious of them, and then link all parts together as a whole. In such a manner, a player should consciously analyse the starting position of a racket while performing a stroke. Then, in his thoughts, fix the hitting point at which the racket hits the ball as well as all other important elements of a stroke, in order to be able, in the uninterrupted course of a stroke. check each detail of a stroke by using internal control.
In the course of studying the performance of a certain stroke it is very useful to video record the course of stroke movement, and then analyse with the coach the stroke movement, so that the player becomes conscious of the mistakes he makes, and as a helping device the player can use a mirror in order to control his own stroke.
During the basic technique training considerable help in performing stroke can be when the coach leads the player’s hand. An experienced coach has the possibility to lead the hand of a player in performing a certain stroke and, in such a manner, gives direct information on how the stroke should be performed.
Hitting precision
One of the component parts of touch is hitting precision, and/or player’s ability to exactly state where thr ball will fly. One can improve touch by concentrated exercises.
In training it is necessary to pay attention to the conscious effort of sending the ball to the point the player has chosen before ho hues started to perform a stroke. With special exercises requiring hitting a certain mark on tho table, a player will relatively soon succeed in improving his touch.
Precision can be trained by marking with chalk, or in some other way, at first big and than smaller and smaller fields on the table which should be hit by the bail. Later on, several fields should be drawn on tho table, and then, immediately before the stroke is performed, order which field is to be hit.
As a variation of such training it is posslble to cover a greater pan of the table with cloth or paper, and leave a smaller part of the table as a surface on which the ball should be destined.
In service training a match box or something similar may be used as a target that should be hit by a ball. Several targets may be used in order to be hit successively in training. The exercise will end when the target has been hit with a defined number of hits.
Anticipation
In table tennis a player has such a short period of time to react that it is necessary for the player to know in advance where the bell hit by the opponent will fly because when the player is not able to foresee it, his chances of timely reaction will be very little. Success in play is directly connected with the ability to anticipate where the opponent will destine his ball i.e., to anticipate the opponent’s action.
In order to improve anticipation it is necessary to use in training as frequentiy and as much as possible different sparing partners and gain experience in such a manner with different types of partners. While training one should play with different partners even when these players are not equal in strength. One can gain necessary experience of, and/or improve anticipation even when training with weaker partners. what directly influences improvement the touch.
It is especially useful to use training exercises in which different sparing partners change each other in quick rhythm. The coach can practice it by giving a signal to players every several minutes to change partners at tables. It is possible, eg. to play a tournament in which tables are marked from number one to the number of existing tables. On table number one weaker players will start and the last table will be for the best players. Several minutes should be played until the coach gives a sign to stop. A player who is leading at the time the stop sign was given goes one table towards the best table and the one who lost goes to a table towards the weakest table (in case the score is indecisive at the moment the play is stopped, a winning point is played), and then it is played again until the coach gives a signal to stop. After several of such rounds have been played, best players will gather round table no. 1, and the weakest round the last table, but in the meantime they will all play short interacting matches, and due to constant change of partners this will have a positive effect on anticipation, and/or development of the touch.
In order to improve anticipation, it is also useful to observe good players and try to consciously guess in advance what that player will play, and/or where he will destine his bail and with what kind of stroke. Special attention should be put on rotation of the ball and try to perform in one’s thoughts adequate correction of one’s own stroke that would be used as the response to the opponent’s action.
Dosing muscle tension
In order to improve touch it is necessary to constantly improve the ability to dose muscle tension. The greater the ability to precisely dose muscle tenson, the better touch will be.
It is necessary to practlce with the extreme changes of playing tempo. So, forehand-contra strokes can be practiced in a manner to alternately change, regularly or irregularly, slow, and then hard, quick strokes. Such tempo changes should be exectJted in other training exercises too.
In the preparation period it is useful to practice occasionally with rackets of different weight. It is possible to load one’s own racket with additional loads or even better to play occasionally with a racket that has a hollow handle in  which weights of different heaviness can be put. In such a manner, it is possible to improve the precision of dosing muscle tension, as a player is getting
used to define the strength of muscle tension as precisely as possible under different conditions.
In order to improve the precismn of dosing muscle tension it is also good to practice wrth balls of different heaviness and hardness. Special training balls that some producers make can be used for such training, and which differ a lot in weight and size from competition balls.
In summer, the possibility to occasionally play outdoors should be welcomed as the wind that disturbs players will require additlonal precision and control in dosing muscle tension, and in such a manner touch will be improved.
Influence of the material
One of the most important components of touch is the table tennis player´s ability to decide upon an angle, trajectory and distance the hell will fly away. One of the very important suppositions regarding presision in a plays is adequate playing material, i.e., blade and rubbers In any case, it is important for the player to have the kind ol material that enables him to perform in the best possible way those strokes he uses most in his kind at play Besides, a racket has to ensure the best possible control of the ball in the play
Each player has to choose in his own interest adequate playing material that will correspond with the level of his table tennis knowledge as well as his way of playing.
Reaction speed
Good touch is not possible without an adequate reaction speed. It IS necessary to work continuous|y on the improvement of reaction speed in order to improve also in this manner the touch.
It is useful in training to perform exercrses in which players respond to optical and/or acoustic signals arranged in advance, perform as quick as possible each time a different stroke from their very own range of strokes, all connected with adequate foot work. While doing it. players perform a stroke with racket without a ball.
In order to improve reaction speed players should practice running wuth swift changes of running direction and turns according to relevant signal given by the coach. A useful exercise is also when a player turns his back to the table, and turns towards the table only after he has heard the sound of a ball served by the opponent from the other side of the table. and then tries to return correctly the served ball.
The coach has about fifty balls in a box and in quick sequence takes one after the other one, and directly from the air hits it with strong swing of the racket and directs it to different places on the half of the table a player is practicing on. A player who is exercising has to try to react as quickty as possibte and try at least to put a racket in the position to catch the ball hit by the coach.
As said before, touch is a very important characteristic of a player; it is even the characteristic that usually show: at sight the ’talent’ of a certain player. However, touch is a complex characteristic and should be syetematically improved in a manner to improve all these individual characteristics that together form the touch. It is certain that each player will profit directly in the long run by practicing the stated exercieee and they will help him to develop more quickly.
